Sri Lanka Day 64 (Trincomalee): Sharing Tuktuk to Marble Beach

I actually slept back after waking up at 6am (the usual time we wake up on weekends) because I knew we had a lot of time and there was no point waking up early.

Had our breakfast in the guest house and man! I actually missed eating bread and jam.

Before we left the guest house, must snap a photo of Fortune Oil Advertisement which the owner of the guest house said it was the landmark of his place. HHAHAHHA

Went to the Marble Beach. It is actually located on the interior and so after taking the bus and alighting at the junction, we had to walk about 2.4km to get it.

The walk was bearable because I got to enjoy the scenery even though the weather at Trincomalee is really damn hot. Trincomalee has many non-urbanised areas but it was a good get away from all the sounds of the vehicles.

When we reached Marble Beach Resort, then I realised that this resort is actually covers the entire Marble Beach and it is being managed by the army. And maybe because of security purposes, after the ticketing area, we could no longer walk in and had to be accompanied by a vehicle. Having a really hard time understanding what the guys were talking about but anyway we called for a tuktuk and before the tuktuk came, we saw a couple also walking in and trying to get to the Marble Beach. We decided to share cost with the couple from Poland and the lady had to sit on her partner’s lap! We felt that it was amazing that we could squeeze into one tuktuk, laughed it off and then off we go!

We were told that swimming is prohibited. I don’t intend to swim actually but I think the couple was disappointed because there was actually nothing else that they could do. Our plan was to really just chill there since we had nothing much to do on this day. The beach is actually quite beautiful and I didn’t want to get out of the shade to have a better look of it because of the damn hot sun. Looking at reviews, it seemed like it is very similar to the Passikuda beach because it is clear and calm. Actually we have been wanting to go to Passikuda but it was really far away. From what we heard from Jonathan, the beach is really beautiful like what you can get in Maldives.

Wore shorts out like after 9 weeks because it was a private beach HAHAH!

After quite a while, the couple approached us and asked whether we would like to go out soon since there was nothing to do there. We decided to share the cost again and look at this amazing tuktuk that could carry 6 people, including the driver and his son! His son was learning driving from the Dad. He only charged us LKR150 to go to the main road, meaning we don’t have to walk that 2.4km anymore!

We parted from the couple as they were going back to Trincomalee town while we are going to head further South to Seruwawila Rajamaha Viharaya. Before getting to that destination, we had to take the bus to Mutur first and then change to another bus. We had our lunch at a random shop near the Mutur Bus Station. It was not bad actually.

Had a really hard time trying to get to Seruwawila because everyone was just giving us very diferent information. It was around 11.30pm and some people were telling us that the bus to Seruwawila only starts to operate at 4pm and asked us to take a tuktuk but luckily we still got on the right place, alighted at the right junction Palaitoppu but guess what? We didn’t go to the temple in the end because the Tuktuk was charging us $10 for a round trip. I hope this would not become my 3rd biggest regret. Sometimes I wonder if saving on this kind of money is really worthwhile.

Went back to Trincomalee Town and then… we had nowhere to go. Decided to get an ice cream at Oriya Cream House and got totally scared off by the colour of the ice cream. So indirectly, I am just paying $1.30 to be at the place to chill for like 4h.

We started to head off to the train station at around 6pm to catch our train at 7pm.

Washed up first at the train station by wiping myself with a wet towel, changing clothes, washing my face and brushing my teeth. Just had to bear with that for a night and I felt like I was actually in a camp. Expected time we would reach COlombo: 3.45am, what an ungodly hour!
