Sri Lanka Day 77 (Ratnapura & Colombo): Visiting the City of Gems
Breakfast:
After breakfast at Greenhouse, we set off to Ratnapura. It was a last minute decision and it turns out to the worst decision ever! Don't ever go there unless you really want to buy gems but even so, there is no need to make a special trip down to that city just to buy the gems.
To get from Dalhousie to Ratnapura: Dalhousie > Hatton > Balangoda > Ratnapura
The first bus leaves at 8am and the police were so nice to offer us to rest at the straw house while waiting.
On the way, we went passed Castlereagh Reservoir. We didn't stop but I could see that it is very beautiful from afar.
Stopped over Hatton for a fried chicken which was not as tasty as what I had in Nuwara Eliya.
Going to Ratnapura was a total roll-eyes experience for me and I am disappointed that the 11 weeks in Sri Lanka ended this way. Going back to Colombo from Hatton by train would have been so much more comfortable and moreover, I was craving for the snacks in Colombo.
We took almost 9h to get to Ratnapura and in the end, we just walked through the town. Couldn't even have a proper meal because oh mans it was already 5pm and we were still not in Colombo. Tired with my luggage and angsty with the empty stomach.
Revealing the gems city:
The time we spent here was equivalent to the time we spent in other cities where we transitted to another bus but we actually spent 9h for the detour.
Finally back to Colombo at around 8.30pm and I knew I needed a good meal.
So yay to chinese food!
The owner of Asahn's Cozy Guesthouse drove s to Majestic City where we shopped for tea and spent the remaining money. Yup i got excess after exchange more money in Nuwara Eliya.
This is Ashan's Cozy Guesthouse where we spent a night here before flying off tomorrow.
